Who Is Held in Prison
Every prison runs education, from basic reading and writing up to Open University study — one of the few parts of prison you can leave with more than you walked in with. What helps: sign up early, because waiting lists are real, and lean on staff and the education department to get on the right course. Functional skills, vocational tickets and distance learning all count at progression reviews and with employers afterwards, and they get you out of the cell. The hard truth: provision is patchy between prisons, and a transfer can interrupt a course. Nobody will chase you to enrol — the places go to the men who ask and keep asking. Use that to your advantage.
