Will I Share a Cell?

Many men share, especially at the start — and in your first days that's usually a help, not a threat. You won't be put in with just anyone: staff decide who shares and assess who's suitable, and you will not be paired with someone dangerous. What helps: a cell-mate in the early nights is often the person who shows you the ropes — how the wing works, how canteen runs, the things you didn't catch in induction. A bit of basic courtesy and a few quiet ground rules early on (the television, the toilet, lights out) settle most pairings quickly. The hard truth: not every pairing is an easy fit, and you might share with someone you've little in common with. If a share ever feels genuinely unsafe, say so to staff and ask to move — in writing if you can. That request is taken seriously.
