Finding Freedom
The strategies and advice you read here are grounded in the lived experience of those who have already walked this path. These steps—financial, practical, and emotional—are not merely administrative; they are powerful acts of courage that lead to a tangible, life-changing sense of safety and self-worth. Hearing from other survivors provides the most powerful encouragement, offering proof that freedom and healing are attainable.
“Opening my own bank account was scary — but it was the first step toward freedom. Now I control my money and I finally feel safe.”
— Survivor, 32
“Leaving was the hardest thing I’ve ever done — but it gave my children and me a new start. We laugh again now.”
— Survivor, 41
“I lived in fear from the constant beatings—leaving work I knew what I would be going home to. Leaving was a struggle; it took me a year of planning and getting the courage to leave my old life behind. But I did it. I moved town and started fresh. It was not easy, but I have no regrets, no fear, no beatings, and no looking over my shoulder. I went into a hostel, got a job, and then after three months got a flat. I removed all of my social media, blocked emails, changed my bank and telephone number, and put a Domestic Violence Protection Order in place so that if he ever found me, he would be arrested straight away.”
— Survivor Testimonial
These voices stand as a testament: the fear of leaving is temporary; the power of reclaiming your life is permanent.
